Social Forestry Camp
Join us for our annual 3-day Social Forestry Camp, where we’ll explore building cultures of place through land and community connection. Our time will be divided between a dynamic balance of reverence and revelry with deep nature connection games and activities (forest meditation, tracking, native plant identification, aidless navigation, etc.) education (ethical wildcrafting, ethnobotanical awareness, soil and stream restoration, etc.) and communal land tending projects (forest tending, agroforestry, biochar production, trail blazing, etc.). During this family-friendly weekend gathering, we’ll prepare communal meals, sing songs, play, craft, co-create, and engage in group discussion through the practice of salon.
Skill building will include ecological surveying, timber stand assessment, restoration forestry, biochar production*, reintegrating fire ecology*, watershed restoration, agroforestry, building a forestry toolkit, coppice management, sorting and grading materials, creating regenerative culture through art, song, and stories, tending the oak savanna, accessing conservation funding and more.
Spring Permaculture Design Course
Our in-person permaculture design courses follow the established international standard of 72 hours of contact time with experienced instructors, including a final group design project that weaves together everything the students have learned over the 12-week course.
This PDC is held in person each Saturday for three months using the Permaculture Institute of North America Core Curriculum. Learn in-person from the Pacific Northwest’s finest systems thinkers at Lost Valley Education Center, an 87-acre living permaculture site.
